Privacy Policy

FamilyCode ("FamilyCode," "we," "us") is operated by Sentez Inc. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using FamilyCode you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

  • Account data: email or sign-in identifier and, where used, a hashed password.
  • Onboarding answers: the name you want us to call you, birth date, how connected you feel to your roots, and what you would like to uncover first.
  • Selfie & face photos: front-face photos you upload for your own scan or for a relative in your family tree. No side profile or ID documents are required.
  • AI ancestry estimates: the structured JSON and generated report sections (ancestry percentages, closest ethnic match, phenotype narrative, cultural alignment, migration story).
  • Family tree data: family member records — full name, living/deceased status, birth/death dates, birthplace, gender, relation, photos and notes.
  • Deep research history: queries you run in Discover and the parsed report outputs generated for you.
  • Usage & device data: app interactions, crash logs, device model, OS version, IP address, push tokens.
  • Subscription data: purchase status and renewal information from Apple. We do not see or store your payment card details.

2. How we use your information

  • Run the AI ancestry estimate pipeline on your selfie and generate your report sections.
  • Power deep research: combine AI with open-source / SerpAPI search to produce parsed markdown reports and a found-images carousel.
  • Store and display your family tree on your account.
  • Send occasional engagement or reminder notifications if enabled.
  • Operate, debug and improve the app, including A/B testing and analytics.
  • Communicate with you about your account, subscription or critical updates.

3. AI ancestry estimate — not a DNA test

FamilyCode results are AI-generated ancestry estimates, not a laboratory DNA test and not verified genealogical proof. Percentages, closest ethnic match, phenotype narrative, cultural alignment and migration stories are probabilistic outputs based on your face photo and public historical signals. Do not use FamilyCode for medical, legal, forensic or identification purposes.

4. Third-party services

We share data with carefully selected processors strictly to deliver FamilyCode:

  • AI vision & language models — server-side AI vision pipeline that receives your front-face photo and returns structured ancestry estimate JSON, plus an LLM that turns that JSON into report sections. Photos are processed under our providers' enterprise terms and are not used to train their models.
  • Open-source / SerpAPI search — used only for deep research queries you explicitly run.
  • Firebase (Google) — authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions and Firebase Storage.
  • Adapty — subscription entitlement and restore flow.
  • Mixpanel + Firebase Analytics — product analytics and A/B testing.
  • OneSignal — push notification delivery (if enabled).

5. Family member photos & permission

When you upload a photo of a relative to your family tree, you confirm you have the appropriate permission from that person (or, for minors and deceased relatives, from the appropriate family member) to upload and process their image for an AI ancestry estimate. You can remove any family member photo from Settings at any time.

6. Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete any uploaded photo, family tree node, scan or research report at any time from Settings, or request full account deletion by emailing hey@sentez.co. Aggregated and de-identified data may be retained for analytics.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR and CCPA), you have rights to access, correct, port, restrict or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact hey@sentez.co to exercise these rights.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to authorized personnel and enforced through per-user access rules. No system is perfectly secure — please use a strong password and protect your device.

9. Children

FamilyCode is intended for adults aged 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. Do not upload photos of minors without explicit permission from their parent or legal guardian.

10. Changes to this policy

We will notify you of material changes via in-app notice or email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
